Welsh Women as peace builders- bringing the 1923 peace petition alive through the creation of textile artwork embroidering key words and phrases and images taken from the peace declaration.

Growing Space Pontypridd developed a series of intergenerational workshops bringing the community together to breath life back into an old quilt dating from the 1800's. Painstakingly removing the original paper pieces and washing 200 years of grime. Throughout our workshops it was discovered through pieces broken fragments of paper together that the quilt was likely to have been made by Mrs Sturch of Shipston-on stour in the Cotswolds. Why it was left unfinished we will never know, perhaps it was left to us to continue it's story?

The quilt has been lovingly finished off by the next generation of peace keepers, women and children who wish for peace and a better world for the generations to come.

The quilt was displayed as part of the Wales Centre for international affairs peace conference weekend and displayed in Storyville Books.

This project was kindly funded by The Welsh Centre for International Affairs / Heddwch Cymru.
